Wow.Nobody had told me,and funny enough I've been more in touch with fellow DHS grads lately. My pops started lessons, but the uneasiness of first driving was smoothed out by Coach Gwrber. The humor and frankness let us know, that it's your choice if you want to be safe, and that was a valuable lesson. It showed us students he's aware of how we live our lives. In Health class and Driver's Ed, even during bball tryouts, I knew I'd be cut from the beginning but he still gave a chance and encouraged, along with his wittiness and humor in every situation. What a blessed family he helped raise, because us former students still feel the fatherly presence to this day. Remember all those great memories, while we send down the prayers.

Today we will celebrate Royce's life. My last conversation with him was about our dads and and the Dover connection. I was personally so glad he was able to be honored at the January 2015 Donnie Swartz Classic at YCP as a Coach Emeritus. I admired him as a great basketball player with Ross Welch at SG but even more when I got to know him as a person...CLASS ACT!

Living in Florida I was late to hear the sad news of Royce's passing. He was a loyal friend and my assistant basketball coach for many years. Our students and players were his loyal fans. He was blessed with that certain ability to relate to not only players but every one who new him. The years with him were great and I'll never forget them. My sympathy goes to Vicki, Deron, and Brandon. There will be a void in our lives but Royce would want all of us to live on like he would.

Mr. Gerber taught my four kids and me how to drive safely. He went out of his way to find a way to do it for my home-schooled kids. He was a good man. Though I didn't see him often, I'm already missing him. My prayers are with his family.

It was a sad day when I heard of Royce's passing. Having known him as a student and eventually a fellow staff member at DAHS, memories of Royce will always bring a smile and bright memory. Encountering Royce was always more than a casual greeting, it was a conversation, a joke, a story, or an inquiry of your family. A wonderful man who will be positively remembered by many. Condolences to the family.

My sympathies to the whole family..love you guys..I'll never forget our first actual interaction...I was walking out of a 9th grade class carrying my books ( he must have knew my path ) because out of nowhere he is beside me and walks a few steps along my side and says, " Dise, you can stay in that rock band and go nowhere, or concentrate on basketball and play in college"...I am glad I instantly took his advice....

Mr. Gerber was such a kind and warm-hearted man and I send my condolences and prayers to his family. When I was initially learning how to drive, I had a pretty bad accident that made me afraid to get behind the wheel again. When Mr. Gerber found out, he went out of his way to give me many extra driving lessons and made extra time for my lessons, even when his schedule was full. He truly cared about his students and we were blessed to know him. God bless him.

My prayers go out to the family. I have fond memories of Mr Gerber. Especially learning to drive. I was driving on a warm day and mr Gerber put the window down and had his arm leaning out. We were headed down the big hill by the tennis courts and it had rained the night before. I drove through the big puddle and his arm got soaked. He said "and that is why you keep your arms in the vehicle at all times"
