Larry R. Hughes, Sr., 76, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the companion of Dottie Carbaugh for 17 years. He was the husband of the late Rhoda F. Hughes.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry. A viewing will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parkville Cemetery.
Born December 2, 1940 in Newberry Twp., a son of the late Ralph and Audrey (Hanna) Hughes, he retired from Novinger, Inc. Mr. Hughes enjoyed his work as a plasterer and continued to work part-time following retirement. During the 1960's, Larry loved to dirt track race at Susquehanna Speedway. He was a member of Goldsboro Fireman's Club, Etters VFW 537, Fairview Twp. American Legion 974, Wago Club and Liberty Social Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and shooting pool.
In addition to his companion, Mr. Hughes is survived by three sons, Larry R. Hughes, Jr. and wife, Nancy of York Haven, John Carbaugh and wife, Carol of Camp Hill and Timothy Carbaugh of York; four daughters, Barbara A. Knouse of West York, Sandra L. Quesenberry and companion, Clay Chamberlain of York Haven, Susan L. Mansberger and husband, Edwin of York Haven and Dyanna L. Bolton of New Cumberland; 20 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Hughes, Jr. and wife, Mary of Dover and Donald Hughes; six sisters, Patricia Garman and husband, Donald of Dover, Donna Garman and companion, John Leader of York Haven, Darlene Kennedy and husband, Ray of Dover, Phyllis Matthews of Wrightsville, Cheryl Archer and husband, John of New Freedom and Sharon Runkle and husband, Donald. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Updegraff; two sons-in-law, James Quesenberry and Michael Eaton, Sr.; and a brother, Robert Hughes.
