Doris J Wight peacefully left this world at her home on Sunday, March 20, 2011. She was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on December 24, 1920 and moved to Yuma in 1956, after marrying the late Thomas Wight of Yuma.
For over 50 years, Doris was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis in Yuma. She worked for Braden Machinery in the 1960's and 1970's. Doris obtained her realtor license in the 70's and was an agent for many years. During that time, she was also an active member and past president of the DAV auxiliary and a Campfire Girl's leader. For the last 30 years, she worked with Yuma Traffic Survival School and taught CCD at St. Thomas Mission. Always ready for new things, Doris took up oil painting, doll collecting and piano playing in her late seventies. She loved to talk to people, tell jokes, and take care of her dogs. Her friends were her family, and all who came into her life had a permanent place in her heart.
Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bill Fox of Yuma; niece, Pam (Mike) Geraci of San Diego; her "second daughter", Donna Franklin of Yuma; niece, Susan (John) Weber of Yuma; along with many cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In her honor, a memorial mass officiated by Father Monohan will be held at St. Thomas Mission on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
Doris was always ready to laugh and had a kind word for everyone. Her smiling face, positive spirit and zest for life will live forever in each heart that she touched.

Doris was such a wonderful, loving, talented, humorous person. The stories she could tell certainly made ya laugh and most of them were true stories and she was the star in most of them. Doris taught 2 of my grandangels in her CCD classes over the years at St. Thomas and we sang in the choir together. We had many fun and funny adventures together. Doris was one of a kind…a real Jewel! We all have a special ”Guardian Angel” watching over us now. Doris, tell God the story about the time we…well, uhhh, maybe not…haha! Rest in Peace, Doris. And yes, Doris, I really do love you!

While I knew Doris only through our occasional phone conversations and prayer line for Secular Franciscans, I will miss her deeply. She was a very caring person. I am sure she rejoices in heaven today and will continue to pray for those of us left behind.
