Harold McCarty Obituary

ZANESVILLE: Harold Judy Joseph McCarty, Jr., 75 of Zanesville, died 11:58 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at his daughters residence following a year long illness. He was born Monday, August 19, 1935 in Adamsville the son of Harold Judy Joseph McCarty, Sr. and Eva (Stotts) McCarty and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Judy attended Adamsville High School and graduated fro Rosecrans High School. During those years he was very active varsity baseball football and basketball. He played for many leagues and in 1952 was 2nd in the state with the Zane Lincoln Mercury Sr. League. Judy was one of the founding members of the Rosecrans Boosters pushing for the introduction of football into the school and built the first football field at Rosecrans. He attended Muskingum College on a Players Scholarship his freshmen year. Judy even had the honor to try out for the Cleveland Indians. He was employed with McGraw Edison for 24 years a homebuilder for 39 years having built over 250 homes in this area. Judy was a well known and respected softball coach from 1974 thru 2005. He was the owner and operator of McCarty's Bar and was very active in raising funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Ugliest Bartender Contest. Judy was a member of the American Legion Post 29, Eagles 302 and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball and NASCR and was a true Notre Dame Fan.
Judy is survived by his companion of 21 years, Cindy Tracy; one daughter, Kimberly (Mike) Bryan and Shawn (Jean Hayes) McCarty both of Zanesville; one daughter-in-law, Judy Tipton- McCarty; one stepson, Chris (Emily) Dement of Zanesville; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his first wife, Sonia Stansberry-Sidwell of Zanesville; two special friends and caregivers, Andrea Steed and Brandy Clawson both of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents, Judy was preceded in death by one son, Timothy J. McCarty; one brother, Dale McCarty; and infant son, Harold Judy Joseph McCarty III; an infant granddaughter, Tammy.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where a Christian Vigil will be held at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr.
