Ernest Vannest Obituary
HEATH: A funeral service for Ernest Clayton "Ernie" Vannest, 77, of Heath, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Katrick officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.
Ernest passed away June 22, 2017, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born June 29, 1939, in Ravenswood, WV, to the late Alice Geraldine (Snyder) Francis and the late Curtis Clayton Vannest.
Ernie was drafted and served in the US Army in Fort Hood, TX. He worked at Roper, Baltimore paper mill and retired from the Heath City Waste Water Plant.
Ernie is survived by his daughter and son in law, Marla and Greg Crowthers of Heath; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Mary Anne Vannest of Heath; 4 grandchildren, Alan Crowthers of Heath, Stephanie (Jeremy) Morgan of Newark, Megan (Nolan) Staiger of Newark, and Timothy (Christie) Crowthers of Martinsburg; 7 great-grandchildren, Emmaleigh, Remington, Rebekkah, Harley, and Kimber Crowthers all of Martinburg, and Avery and Amelia Morgan both of Newark; sister, Anne Roehlig whom he shares the same birthday with from Bradenton, FL; step brother, Leroy Vannest of Newark; his companion, Carol Lenhart of Mt. Perry, OH; two nephews, and several cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Sue (Vogelmeier) Vannest whom he married September 17, 1961 and passed away November 29, 1999. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting and playing cards. He had many talents and was able to fix almost anything. He enjoyed most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
