Clarence Waller Obituary

Clarence A. 'Andy', passed away in peace Feb. 25, 2002, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1947, and grew up in Friendship, OK. He honorably served in the Army, proudly seeing tours of duty stateside, in Germany, and Vietnam. After completing his service, he worked as a long haul truck driver until he was paralyzed in an industrial accident in 1980. This did not dampen his spirit, and within a short time, he considered using a wheelchair to be a minor inconvenience. He always managed to find a way to do whatever he wanted, loving life and his family with a passion. He became a deputy court clerk for Oklahoma County after his injury, taking a medical retirement in 1997. Survivors include his beloved wife, Stephanie; sons, Clarence A., II and John Henry Waller; daughters, Frances Burris, Andrea Hawkins and Shelby Waller; 5 grandchildren, 3 sisters, and a brother, and special stepchildren, Sherri Fagan, and Jimmy Bentley, who has also been a best friend to him. Predeceased by his parents, Lessie and Henry J. Waller, sister, Katherine, and a special little grandson, Phoenix Rich. The family would like to thank Drs. Timothy Grode, Joe Zuerker, and John Harkess, the staff of Edmond Medical Center and Mercy Home Health, for all of their loving care during these difficult months. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 28, 2002, at Baggerley Edmond Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK, followed by military graveside services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. We love you, Sweetheart. Remember what you have always said: 'There are no wheelchairs in Heaven.' Baggerley Funeral Home 930 S. Broadway, Edmond

Clarence,

I will always remember your witty humor, and the life-keeping lessons you and Momma Billie tried to teach us hard-headed teenagers. Those were some great times. I will look you up when I get to Heaven, but please whatever you do if they have potato hotdog casserole in Heaven eat mine before I get there. Love ya, Brenda

Dearest Stephanie and children,

I send my deepest sympathy and many prayers during your time of unsolable grief. I only met Andy once, but it was clear how special he was and how happy he made you. I know we will all go on with our lives and your's will never be the same "normal" as before. I know God is your strenghth and he will help you achieve that new normal. I miss you Steph and wish I could be there for you in person. Just remember that I'm with you there in spirit and if you want to get away by yourself just call me. Take care and God bless you and the children.

Hey Andy!

I never would have made it through nursing school, I I hadn't had somebody I could trust to Look after Lesley for me. That was you. And I didn't even have to ask, you just stepped up to the plate, and offered. There aren't too many people who would have done that. I know you will get this email, and know how much I miss you.

PS Are you saving me that seat?!

Over the past twenty seven years that I have known Andy he has always been a friend to me, and the way it stands today, has been a true friend. Indeed, he has always been able to cheer me up, and I hope that on occasion I have done the same for him. I know he is in a better place, free from all the earthly ties that we can only imagine~farewell my friend, you have enriched my life with your friendship and I only hope I have done the same for you! I will miss you and think of you often, and remember times gone by.

I knew you as Clarence. You were a friend and confidant to me even in times when I thought no one else would be. I will never forget the life lessons you taught me, such as work hard and always have fun. God speed. I will see you again some day.

Andy and I go way back! I was his ride home from Edmond Hopsital when he "first" went to live with Stephanie! She was my best friend, and I was his ride, heading off....into a new life! A life that almost ended the night I drove him home! And if Andy were alive today, he would tell you what a harrowing ride it was! And he would say it with a smile! :-) It was a dark, dark night! (In my defense) And after getting Andy into my great big "ancient" Ford Elite, I loaded his wheelchair into the trunk...and off we went! Speeding off into the night, a very "DARK" night....we crashed right up over the median, and then back down off of it again! He said not a word, just sat there straight faced and white knuckled! I just laughed and laughed! He must of thought I was nuts! I was! Edmond Memorial should have thought better...before they put that median right there in front of the hospital like that! Well Andy was never happier that when I finally got him to Stephanies! White knuckled and sporting a splitting headache...he had made it! And that was 17 years ago! We have talked about "The Night We Met" several times since, and it always brought a smile to Andy's face, and mine! "I guess I was forgiven! I even took the pictures at their wedding!" Andy was a quiet man, even on that "momentous night", hahaha...a man of few words! (Lucky for me!) He was very special, and will be missed by so many! "I'll see you on the other side Andy!"
