Harry Moulton Obituary

Harry D. Moulton, 77, of Midland, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at the Toni and Trish House, Auburn.

He was born March 15, 1931, in Saginaw, the son of the late Frank B. and Beatrice (Gardner) Moulton. Harry graduated from Harrison High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in December, 1950. While stationed in Germany, he was a sports writer for Stars and Stripes, meeting many interesting people during his four year enlistment, including President Eisenhower. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Joan E. Bala in Freeland. Harry graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor's degree, and went on to earn his masters and EDS degrees from the University of Michigan. After 21 years of service, he retired as superintendent of the Midland Intermediate School District. Harry was a member of the Harrison Masonic Lodge, Houghton Lake Elks Club and the Freeland Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for centering his life around his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan; children, Cheryl (Jerry) Rivard of Mears, Ken (Carol) Moulton and Jodi (Pat) Goodwin all of Midland; grandchildren, Jason Rivard of Canyon Lake, Calif., Jeni Rivard, Gray, Kelsey and Kirsten Grzegorczyk, Mike, Ryan, Adam, and Alex Goodwin all of Midland; and great grandchildren, Hannah, Hollie, Gage and Logan. He was predeceased by an infant grandson Jerod Rivard; and an infant brother, Morris.

Funeral services will take place at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. The Rev. Dr. Brent McCumons of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Midland Cemetery with full military honors presented by the U.S. Air Force and the Midland Area Veterans.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services. A Masonic service will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

JoAn and family, Saundra and I are camping in Petoskey and just got onto the internet and see Duane's obit. Seems like only a few months ago that we saw Duane and JoAn and friends at the Auburn K of C fish fry.

It was a pleasure to know Duane and all of you - as neighbors, friends and Chuck through the ISD.

May God bless all of you at this time and welcome Duane into heaven. He was a good man.
