SAN ANGELO — Mildred Patrick Callahan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the age of 89. Mildred was born May 11, 1918, to John and Maggie Patrick in Palestine, Texas. In 1941, Mildred married John A. Callahan, also of Palestine.Mildred and John made their home in Dallas, Texas, until 1965, when they moved to West Texas. They have been residents of San Angelo since 1967. Mildred worked at Sturgis and Connie’s dress stores before she retired to be a grandmother. She was a member of the Newtimers Club and the First Christian Church of San Angelo. After their retirements, Mildred and John delivered meals to the elderly.Mildred was preceded in by her husband of 60 years, John (2001), her parents; her brothers, Jack Patrick and Harry Patrick; sisters Velma Patrick, Mrs. Lorraine Crawford, Mrs. Catherine Black and Mrs. Doris Marshman.Survivors include her son and daughter-in law of San Angelo, Pat and Susan Callahan; daughter, Mrs. Cathryn Rae of Houston; grandchildren John P. Callahan Jr., Robin, Cathryn Rae and Sean David Rae; sister Mrs. Jonibel Smith; brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Weyman Crawford; Mrs. Clara Schaff, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Mr. Tom Bloodworth.Honorary pallbearers will be the Downtown Lions Club.Visitation was held Thursday, March 6, at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the First Christian Church of San Angelo. Burial will be in Palestine, Texas, beside her beloved husband John, at 4 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.Special thanks to the staff and residents at Royal Estates who so enriched her later years, and to the staff at Meadowcreek Nursing Home.Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church of San Angelo on Oakes Street.
