Russell Hill Obituary


Russell S. Hill VIRGINIA BEACH - Russell Stanley "Chuggie" Hill, 87, of Charity Neck Road, passed away Aug. 9, 2008. Born in Princess Anne County, he was the youngest of two sons born to the late Walter Russell and Atla Mae Whitehurst Hill. He grew up and lived on a family farm in the southern rural area of Virginia Beach and was a member of Charity United Methodist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed the wildlife that surrounded him. Chuggie graduated from Creeds High School. He served in the U.S. Naval service and U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 serving on the USS Rowe, USS EM Edwards and was stationed at the CGTS in Curtis Bay, Md., and False Cape Lifeboat Station, Va. He retired from NAS Oceana after 40 years of service as an electrician. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nicole Padmore and Dr. Marianne Zuggo and the staff at Seaside Healthcare Center for their care and kindness to Russell. Russell is survived by his niece, Jacqueline Hill Williams; nephew, James Derwood Hill; and a cousin, Anne Akers. He was preceded in death by his brother, Derwood Brinley Hill. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Charity Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Allen Whitehurst officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Charity United Methodist Church, 4080 Charity Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
