Ernest Bossie Obituary


Ernest R. Bossie VIRGINIA BEACH - Ernest R. "Ernie" Bossie, 78, died Aug. 12, at home. Born and raised in Millinocket, Maine, he lived in this area for most of his adult life. He was a retired U.S. Navy senior chief petty officer having served for 22 years and a retired HVAC mechanic with Norfolk Public Schools Plant Facilities. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Men, Fleet Reserve No. 166, American Legion No. 113, Masonic Lodge No. 335, Khedive Shrine Center and Tidewater Emmaus - Walk No. 5. Ernie was a former square dancer with the Dixie Squares and also loved to cook for groups at church and at home before he became disabled. Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Doris Lee Bossie; son, David R. Bossie of Riverview, Fla.; a daughter, Rebecca B. Kirstein of Apex, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Rosalie La Chance of Land O'Lakes, Fla., Monica G. Kapps of Laurel, Md., and Donna Lee Capps of Virginia Beach; four grandsons, John and David Kirstein, James Clay Duke and P. Neil Padgett; two granddaughters, Micaela Bossie and Kimberly Valdez; two great-grandsons, Avery and Dalton Padgett; two sisters, Evy Ciofani and Yvonne Giustianini of Waterbury, Conn.; five half brothers, Eugene Bossie of Chula Vista, Calif., Ronnie Bossie of Randolph, Maine, Gerald Frost of Tacoma, Wash., Ernie Plourde of New Port Richey, Fla., and Edward Bossie of Waterbury; two half sisters, Christina Woodfield of Naugatuck, Conn., and Lisa Boucher of Fort Kent, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bossie and Gertrude Bossie Plourde; his brothers, Norman and Albert Bossie and sisters, Fernanda Murray and Rinette Spitzer. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception afterward in the church fellowship hall. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 62345, Virginia Beach, VA 23466 or to the building fund of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 717 Tucson Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The family is grateful to all the doctors and nurses who helped him through many difficult circumstances, also Steve at Tidewater Prosthetics, the staff of Kempsville Dialysis Center, and especially his loving church family who helped in so many ways.
