Margaret Payne Obituary


Margaret L. Payne VIRGINIA BEACH - Margaret L. "Scotty" Payne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Aug. 12, 2008, in the company of family members and the loving and caring hands of the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Scotty was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Greensboro, N.C. She graduated from Princess Anne High School with honors in 1959 where she was a majorette. After high school, Scotty worked for Eastern Gas and Fuel from 1959-1962. She retired in 2003 after 22 years at Kempsville and Providence Elementary School libraries in Virginia Beach. She was a past president of the Suburban Junior Women's Club. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church where in the past, she had taught the young adult class. Scotty enjoyed many interests including reading, listening to music, shopping, Broadway plays, playing bridge, travel, spending time at the family cottage at Point Harbor, N.C., and the country cabin near Farmville, Va. Scotty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Garland; her children, Mark and wife Melissa, George "G.G." and wife Anne, Ashley and husband Tim and Aimee; and her six grandchildren, Caitlin, Jamie, Hunter, Haley, Matthew and Hugo. She was predeceased by her brother, James T. Lane; her parents, Pauline and James Lane; and her stepfather, Paul Sawyer. A funeral will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Southeastern Virginia, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
