Kathryn Drake Obituary


Kathryn R. Drake CARRSVILLE - Sarah Kathryn Robertson Rose Drake, 75, died Aug. 15, 2008. She was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Rossie Lee and Emily Bessie Hines Robertson, and was the widow of Vernon Winston Rose and Dock Vick Drake. Mrs. Drake was also predeceased by a brother, Robert Curtis Robertson, and a sister-in-law, Lucille Robertson. She was a former senior regent and chaplain of the Women of the Moose, Suffolk Chapter 1315; former president of the Carrsville and Windsor Elementary School PTAs; and past president of the Windsor High School Band Boosters. Mrs. Drake was an Avon representative for 30 years and was a former choir member and a former Sunday School teacher of Colosse Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Alan Wayne Rose and wife Angie; her two grandsons, Micheal Vernon Rose and Gabriel Robert Rose; one brother, R. L. "Robbie" Robertson Jr. and wife Joanne of Windsor; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Mason and Betty R. Butler and husband Roy; stepchildren, Jerry Drake and wife Linda, Hank Drake and wife Jo Tee, Freddie Drake, Steve Drake, Mary Ann Taylor and husband Gerald and Betty Lou Cobb and husband James; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Mattie Bradshaw and Elizabeth Britt. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Tim Webb officiating. Internment will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at Kathryn's residence. Memorials may be made to Colosse Baptist Church Building Fund, 6361 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, VA 23487; Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 483, Windsor, VA 23487; or Women of the Moose Chapter 1315, Turlington Road, Suffolk, VA 23434, to be sent to the Children's Home in Chicago, Ill. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
