Helen Murphy Obituary


Helen Gordon Murphy VIRGINIA BEACH - Helen Gordon Murphy, 90, devoted wife, loving mother and granny, and cherished sister, died Aug. 17, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Luther C. Gordon and Virginia Cooke Mitchell and widow of Floyd Lee Murphy. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter, Dorothy Strawhand; son, Melvin Murphy (Shirley); four grandsons, David Strawhand and Jason Murphy of Virginia Beach, Michael Strawhand (Annamarie) of North Carolina and Jamie Murphy (Pam) of Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Barrett and Hannah Murphy of Kentucky and Landry Leigh Strawhand of North Carolina; one sister, Evelyn Bonney; three sisters-in-law, Velma Cartwright, Lillie Murphy and Emily Davis (Wayne) of Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held at Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jamie Murphy officiating. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Maestas Chapel, on Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach, is handling arrangements. The family will be receiving friends at 557 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 465 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457 or Creeds Rescue Squad. We'll miss you "Teeny Granny."

My condolences to the family and friends of Mrs.Murphy,Some of my best childhood memories were spent being taken to the general store by my grandmother Pearl Waterfield to get a bag of candy from Mrs or Mr Murphy.They as well as those times will be missed.
