Floyd Powell Obituary


Floyd A. Powell SUFFOLK - Floyd Albert "Buck" Powell, 79, passed away Aug. 18, 2008. He was born in Smithfield, the son of the late Harvey and Mary Valentine. He was a U.S. Army veteran after serving during the Korean War. Buck retired after 30 years as the grounds and building supervisor for VDOT. He was a member of the Independence Christian Church in Ashland, Va., and was also a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685. Buck is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Jethro Darden of Suffolk; grandchildren, Bernard, Dennis and Billie Jean; stepgrandchildren, Everett and David; great-grandchildren, Devin, Ashley, Chelsey, Brittany, John Jr. and Jordan; step great-grandchildren, Matthew and Heather; sister, Susie Belle McNamara of Richmond; foster sisters, Elizabeth Cannon and Kathleen DePanicis, both of Ashland, Va.; and foster brother, Russell Bumpass of Ashland. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Holly Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
