Jane Lechler Obituary

Jane Etris Lechler VIRGINIA BEACH - Jane Etris Lechler, loving wife and mother, was relieved of her physical suffering Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, surrounded by her husband, son and daughter. She was born Jane Terres Etris Nov. 14, 1934, and lived a full, rich and happy life, persevering with courage, grace, good cheer and a kind and generous spirit through the many challenges she encountered along her path. She is survived and will be missed by her husband, William; son, John; daughter, Laura; brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Mary Jane; stepdaughter, Lore; grandson, Paul; brother-in-law, George; sister-in-law, Wandy; nephews, Andrew, Edward, David, George, Robert and James; and nieces, Cathy Jean, Mary Virginia and Suzanne. Jane loved nature and the outdoors. Before her long fight with polymyositis, she was a passionate downhill skier, loved swimming, enjoyed cooking, needlepoint, knitting and loved traveling with her husband and family. Recently, she especially took great pleasure in watching and listening to songbirds and in the companionship of our family dog. She gave freely of her time and energy to those in need and was actively involved in many charitable and community organizations throughout her life. She was the founder and chairman of the Virginia Beach Circle of Friends, a group of women dedicated to raising money for local charities by hosting annual fundraising events over the past 10 years. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church, 2020 Laskin Road. The family will receive friends in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, today from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Arthritis Foundation or the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind. A guestbook may be signed and condolences may be sent to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
