Nina Travis Obituary


Nina G. Travis CHERITON - Nina Grace Colonna Travis, 91, wife of the late Bernard Reid "Cat" Travis and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Sept. 2, 2008, at her residence. A native of Northampton County, she was the daughter of the late George Samuel and the late Olevia Richardson Colonna. She was a retired clerk for Peebles department store. She was a member of Cape Charles Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She also was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by four children, Robert "Butch" Travis and his wife Valerie of Cape Charles, Grayson Reid Travis and his wife Christine of Ashland, Va., Betty Travis Parker of Chesapeake and Mable Travis Houts and her husband Ken of Westville, N.J.; two brothers, Donovan Colonna and his wife Evelyn of Silver Beach, Va., William Tyler Colonna of Onancock; a sister, Georgia Arendts of Virginia Beach.; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Travis was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Travis Long; and a grandson, Larry Burkholder. A funeral will be held at noon today from the Cape Charles Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Goodrich officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cape Charles Baptist Church, 501 Randolph Ave., Cape Charles, VA 23310 or to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 316, Parksley, VA 23421. Arrangements are by Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com.
