Michael Porter Obituary


Michael O. Porter Sr. CHESAPEAKE - Michael O. Porter Sr., 60, of the 2300 block of Rock Creek Drive, passed away Sept. 1, 2008. He was born May 22, 1948, to the late John and Virginia Porter in Norfolk. He was a graduate of Norview High School and attended Norfolk State University. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk, and he retired in 2004 as a mail handler after 31 years of service. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Victoria Porter; one daughter, Keysha Porter of Chesapeake; three sons, Darien Porter of Woodbridge, Michael O. Porter Jr. and Byron Porter, both of Chesapeake; one sister, Carolyn Payton; two brothers, Johnnie Porter and Samuel Porter; five grandchildren, Deja Jenkins, Brionna Holloway, Darien Porter Jr., Denzel Porter and Drew Porter; an aunt, Evelyn Spence; and a host of other relatives and friends. "For thou art my hope, O Lord God; thou art my trust from my youth." Psalm 71:5. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Campostella Heights SDA Church, 1006 Oakwood St. Elder Gary Banks will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel, is in charge. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
