Raymond Chambers

Raymond Chambers HARRISBURG, Pa. - Raymond W. Chambers, 85, of the 4800 block of Tamar Drive, and formerly of Windsor, Va., peacefully transitioned to his eternal home Sept. 4, 2008, at home while holding the hands of his beloved wife of more than 50 years. He was born in Roanoke, Va., son of the late John Wesley and Mary (Williams) Chambers. He was a member of the Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon, past chairman of the Trustee Ministry, Sunday school teacher, Missionary instructor and with the Christian Education Ministry. Raymond was a World War II veteran, a graduate of Virginia State University, retired as a computer systems analyst, originally with Norfolk Naval Supply Center then later transferred to the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, and in his leisure enjoyed family gatherings and vacations, cookouts and the time spent with his Deacon Family Ministry Team. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother and he leaves to celebrate his life, his beloved wife, Beulah M. Chambers; his daughters and son-in-law, Angela C. and Paul Ellis and Sheila Chambers; his sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond Jr. and Renee' Chambers, all of Harrisburg and Elder Barry and Donna Chambers of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; his sister, Fanonda Leach of Palm Coast, Fla.; his 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, beloved church family and friends, who will miss his contagious smile and encouragement. Deacon Chambers' life will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of his Church, 2447 Green St., Harrisburg, with viewing from 9 until 11 a.m. and burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
