Ricky Gressett Obituary
Ricky Allen Gressett SUFFOLK - Ricky Allen Gressett, 43, of the 3600 block of Ithaca Trail, died Sept. 5, 2008, in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Portsmouth, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold C. and Hilda B. Gressett and brother, Robert A. Gressett. Ricky was co-owner of Gressett Home Services and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Diane Y. Gressett; stepdaughter, Nicole Campbell; grandson, Caleb Piker; four sisters, Martha Taylor and husband Bob, Margaret Britt and husband George, Glenda Forrester and husband Mark and Cindy Flordeliza; brother, Jerry Gressett and wife Debbie; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by Pastor Larry Renfrow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.

To Ricky,
The once we met, your comedy and lightheartedness was different and refreshing. Not many people bring smiles in behind them no matter where they go. A lot of the things I love so much in Monica I saw were you're awesome qualities. Thanks for that, your love lives on that way. I hate to hear about her loss from where I am, but know that from the other side of the world you are wished peace and thanks for the things you gave to all of us.

To my Uncle Ricky…
To my sisters and to me, I hope you know how your love and support fathered and nurtured us when we needed such a figure. I suppose our time here can be amazing or disappointing, and giving… but it takes away from us too…but Michael & I, and our little lady on the way, take great lessons from your great life… and like you, I wish for us to provoke out of others only what is best in their nature, and I wish to be able to inspire into others the greater need for life and love, and plenty of comedy, and patience. By the love you have inspired here, I know you simply were one of us who understood life and who just accomplished the best in human nature a little early. The only one of us worthy of the place you’ll hang your hat now. I love and miss you terribly, but against the alternative, I wish you the peace you have now. With all my heart…

To my Uncle Ricky, I hope you know that if I were able to, I would've been there with you every moment I could. I know you would not have wanted me to see you, in your last moments here, the way you were. But at the same time, I wish I could've said one last good-bye. I know it didn't have to be said, but I love you and miss you so much. I didn't know that a person could hurt this way. I feel like I lost my father sinse that's what you were to me. Thank you for being that example to me and for all that you've done. I try to be strong because I know you didn't like to see us cry and I do know you're not suffering anymore and that you're in the best place you could be, and if you had the chance, you wouldn't come back. If I could touch you again, I would give you a big hug and kiss and breathe you in one last time. You are my guardian angel. With all my love Casi.
