Charles Green Obituary


Charles W. Green Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Charles W. Green Jr., 87, passed away peacefully Sept. 6, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his mother, Irene Lankford Nottingham Green; his father, Charles W. Green Sr.; and two sisters, Mary Virginia Green Mathews and Irene Green Stevenson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Signal Corps, in the Pacific Theatre during the liberation of the Philippines. He then joined the first wave of occupation in Japan. He returned home and resumed his employment with the C&P Telephone Company. He retired after 44 years of service. Born in Norfolk, he was a 1939 graduate of Maury High School. As a young man, he was a member of the Demolay and later joined Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 266 AF&AM. At his death, he had been a member of that lodge for 66 years. He was a longstanding member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and the Telephone Pioneers of Family Campers of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Emma Patricia Swann Green; his daughter, Patricia Green Litz and her husband John of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Jane Marie Green of the home; granddaughter, Tiffany Litz-Clifton and husband Scott of Charlotte; grandson, C. Bradford Litz of Virginia Beach; and great-granddaughter, Quinn Emeline Clifton. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Garden of Apostles at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
