Rowland Pruette was a wonderful person who served many well. He touched the lives of thousands of students. He was honored with faculty emeritis status at Chowan University (1967-1986) where he served as the chair of the Department of Religion & Philosophy. The 1986 Chowanoka (yearbook) was dedicated to him and I quote "We dedicate the 1986 CHOWANOKA to one of the most loved and respected persons at Chowan College. He is an outstanding teacher and displays an obvious and genuine concern for students, both in and out of the classroom. His friendly disposition, his caring attitude, his dedication to his profession and the college, his scholarly demeanor all combine to make him a worthy role model for the entire campus community. He is a genuine Christian gentleman. In his quiet, unassuming way he practices in his life the faith that he professes and teaches. For all these reasons and more, we the students of Chowan College proudly and gratefully dedicate this yearbook to Professor Rowland S. Pruette." He will be missed.
