Ernestine Hurdle Obituary


Ernestine M. Hurdle PORTSMOUTH - Ernestine Mabry Hurdle, 78, slipped into eternal rest on the afternoon of Sept. 4, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. She was born and raised in Norfolk County, Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, Rozelia Mabry Carney and John Henry Mabry; stepfather, Vernon Carney Sr.; and her husband, Sherwood Hurdle Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Calvin Mabry Sr. (Dianette), Sherwood Hurdle Jr. (Clara) of Chesapeake, Allan Hurdle (Laverne) of Portsmouth; four daughters, Joyce Mason (Robert) of Chesapeake, Carolyn Hurdle and Sandra White of Portsmouth and Gloria Tavers of Norfolk; three siblings, Margie Edwards (McKinley) of Portsmouth, Gloria Carney (Hosea) of Chesapeake and Vernon Carney Jr. (Barbara) of Marino Valley, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A homegoing service will commence at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Bethel Baptist Church, 1817 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
