Walter Cuffee Obituary


Walter E. Cuffee Sr. PORTSMOUTH - Walter Ezekiel Cuffee, 87, of Holly Hill Lane, departed peacefully with his children at his bedside early Monday morning, Sept. 8, 2008 at 3:14 a.m. He grew up in West Munden. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and upon his return home he married Esther Louise Freeman and from this union six children were born. He retired in 1989 as a taxi driver for Eastside Cabs of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his parents, Ezekiel and Blanche Cuffee; four sisters, Mary, Flossie, Ruth and Blanche; and one brother, William. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Louise Cuffee Freeman of Chesapeake; five daughters, Mary of Chesapeake, Hermione of Portsmouth, Barbara (Johnny) of Norfolk, Ella of Huntsville, Ala., Janet (Stanley) of Grifton, N.C.; and a son, Walter E. Cuffee Jr. of Chesapeake; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends. Viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk. Following the interment, the family will receive friends for a repast at the Deep Creek Center, 2901 Margaret Booker Drive, Chesapeake, off of George Washington Highway, 487-8841.
