Elsie Pritchard Obituary


Elsie Mae Pritchard VIRGINIA BEACH - Elsie Mae Pritchard, 91, passed away Sept. 6, 2008. She had lived at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville, Va., since 2005. She was born Aug. 3, 1917, to Charlie T. and Dorcas Riddick Pritchard in Elizabeth City, N.C. She married William Wilbur Pritchard in 1935 and they established their home in Elizabeth City. In 1945, they moved to Norfolk, and in 1954 they moved to the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach. Elsie was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and especially enjoyed her Sunday school class, WMU and singing in the Senior Adult Choir. She loved her home, family and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carroll Pritchard, formerly of Elizabeth City; and her husband, Wilbur Pritchard. She is survived by her sister, Margaret P. Pritchard of Norfolk; her son, William C. Pritchard and wife Joanne of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Linda Pritchard Smith and husband Richard of Keswick, Va.; her grandchildren, William C. Pritchard Jr. and wife Connie of Virginia Beach, Donald J. Pritchard and wife Kim of Chesapeake, Judith P. McElhannon and husband Mack of Chesapeake, Kristin M. Smith of Vienna, Va., and Kathryn S. Spencer and husband Rob of Atlanta; as well as great-grandchildren, Noah Pritchard, Daniel Carter and wife Beth and Mark Carter, Lauren and Matthew Pritchard, Trey, Katie, Jenna, Mikayla and Rachel McElhannon. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret W. Pritchard of Elizabeth City and Catherine Pritchard of Lexington, N.C. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge as well as the staff from the Hospice of the Piedmont. Their love, support and care went above and beyond. A chapel service will be held in the Chesapeake chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1416 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, at noon Saturday by the Rev. Ernest Roebuck. Burial will be at 2 p.m. graveside in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Mission of Norfolk or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at hdoliver.com.
