Hildegard Scott Obituary


Hildegard Utech Scott INDIAN LAND, S.C. - Hildegard "Hilda" Utech Scott passed away suddenly at home Sept. 13, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, George W. "Scotty"; daughter, Susan Bohlander of San Francisco; sons, Michael and wife Jennifer of Buxton, N.C., and David and wife Ellen of Waxhaw, N.C.; sister, Margret Utech of Valatie, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jasen Bohlander, Aleea Toledo, Hilary Piland, Ryan and Hannah Scott; great-grandsons, Ashton Piland and Aiden Bohlander. Born in Hamburg, Germany, July 12,1928, Hilda emigrated to America at a young age with her parents, the late John and Ilse Utech. She grew up in New York state and was the 1946 salutatorian of Hudson High School. She graduated from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked with distinction at her chosen profession in many different capacities, finally retiring as a school nurse from the Virginia Beach Public Schools in June 1989. After her marriage to Scotty in 1951 she became a Navy wife, living in Jacksonville, Fla., Washington D.C., Norfolk and settled in Virginia Beach for more than 40 years before moving to Sun City in Indian Land, S.C., in 2007. While in Virginia Beach, she was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was an enthusiastic and active participant in the Tidewater Bicycle Association and the Southern Points Garden Club. A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1489 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land, SC 29707. McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel, Charlotte, N.C., is in charge of all local arrangements.
