Bessie Cooke Obituary


Bessie Mae Cooke PORTSMOUTH - Bessie Mae Cooke, 98, of the 700 block of Coolidge St., passed away Sept. 14, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Mrs. Cooke was born Feb. 5, 1910. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cooke and three of her children, Robert Sligh, Sarah Reese and Joseph Dempsey. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Gene Dempsey of Georgia; five grandchildren, Melvin Sligh of New York, Michael Reese of Virginia Beach, Carol Corry and Sarina Reese of Portsmouth and Johnny Reese of Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A life celebration service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com.
