Dario Gonzalez Obituary


Dario O. Gonzalez VIRGINIA BEACH - Dario O. Gonzalez, 83, passed away Sept. 18, 2008, surrounded by his family in his home after a short battle with cancer. Born in Havana, Cuba, Dario immigrated to the United States in 1960 and worked as a chemical engineer in New Jersey, Venezuela, Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio, and Norfolk, first for Uniroyal Corp. and then for Sheller-Globe Corp. He was a Master Mason, and became a very proud American citizen in 1972. Dario leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Hilda Bohorques-Gonzalez; his two children, Dario Gonzalez and his wife Sha of Rochester, N.Y., and Patricia Rowan and her husband Bruce of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Brenda Gonzalez, Sarah Gonzalez, Paul Gonzalez, Sean Rowan, Alexis Rowan and Corey Lobas; and his very special friends, Bret and Denise Clark of Wooster, Ohio. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Ryan and Dr. Warren Austin, the nurses and staff of floor 2B at Leigh Memorial Hospital, and especially the wonderful nurses and staff of Heartland Home Healthcare for their compassionate care of Dario during his illness. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Fr. Steve DeLeon officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Dario's honor to the Heartland Hospice Foundation, 5040 Corporate Woods Drive, Suite 150, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, Attention: Patty Hendricks.
