Leslie Evans Obituary
Leslie C. Evans SUFFOLK - Leslie Carter Evans, 79, passed away Sept. 19, 2008. A native of Gates County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jesse R. Evans and Fruzie Eure Evans. Carter retired after 25 years as produce manager at Belo's supermarket. He was a 50-year member of Suffolk Masonic Lodge, No. 30, Mount Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20, Khedive Shriners, Suffolk Shriner's Club, Sinai No. 18 of the Order of the Eastern Star where he served 18 times as Worthy Patron. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. Carter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Joan G. Evans of Suffolk; a stepgranddaughter, Carla J. Griggs of Mount Olive, N.C.; two sisters, Juliett E. Williams of Winton, N.C., and Gloria E. Nichols of Ahoskie, N.C.; two brothers, Clinton Evans of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Ronald Evans of Siler City, N.C. A funeral with Eastern Star rites will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, with the Rev. Jonathan Palmer officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation and at other times at 4868 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk. Memorials may be given to Gates County High School Social Studies Department, c/o Linda Holfer, 088 U.S. Highway 158, Gatesville, NC 27938. Tommy, I am so sorry to hear of your fathers death. I did not find out about it until this morning. I worked with Carter at Belo's and I knew you when u was in school. I always loved your father and mother. I know it will leave a big hole in your life.

Tommy, I am so sorry I cannot attend your Dad's funeral but I have a previous committment. I just want you to know how special your Mom and Dad were. They were so welcoming to me and my family when I moved to Suffolk and Southside. I know you will miss him.
