William Jeffcoat Obituary

William C. Jeffcoat III NORFOLK - William Charles Jeffcoat III, 51, passed away suddenly but peacefully in his home Sept. 18, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Katherrine Pennello Jeffcoat; his son, John A. Jeffcoat of Chesapeake; and his daughter, Caitlin Ann Jeffcoat of Norfolk. Born in Newport, R.I., he was the son of Joanne Jeffcoat of Norfolk and the late William Charles Jeffcoat Jr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Edwin "Eddie" Jeffcoat. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia J. Laird and her husband Barry of Stafford; his sister, Carole A. Laird and her husband Randal of Virginia Beach; his sister-in-law, Marguerite Pennello of Cape Charles; his brothers-in-law, Anthony and Thomas Pennello of Norfolk; four nieces, one nephew and two great-nephews. William was retired from Norfolk Public Works Facility as an HVAC technician, a career which he found extremely rewarding both personally and professionally. William thrived at youth baseball and was scouted by the Norfolk Tides. As an adult, he enjoyed playing competitive softball. He loved his family and his home. His pride in his children, nieces, nephews, Daniel now a staff sergeant, Special Operations, stationed in Iraq served as his guiding force. In the years since his retirement, he enjoyed painstakingly completing home improvements to perfection. He also had an endearing relationship with his little cousin, Nathaniel Ternes, who enjoyed assisting him with his home projects. Recently, in a quest to improve his health while engaging in family fun, he returned to bicycle riding with his family. Vacations and quick trips to relatives homes dotted his calendar. In recent years, William volunteered with the N.E.S.T. program for the homeless during the holiday seasons. He also volunteered for various activities at Christ the King School. Williams' two greatest joys in life were his son, John and his daughter, Caitlin "Honey Bunny" who had no choice but to continue his 45-year legacy as the world's greatest, diehard Dallas Cowboy fans ever. William is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Columbia Ave. and Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Brian Rafferty will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church of School. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Dear Kathi and Caitlin,
My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I have such wonderful memories of Bill on all those afternoons - encouraging Caitlin with her math, playing basketball with her in the yard, and working on his projects around the house. Thinking about his weekly quest to find the pencil sharpener makes me smile! I will never forget his spirit.

with Love,
Cathy
