Shirley Newby Obituary


Shirley B. Newby NORFOLK - Shirley B. Newby passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2008, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Washington, N.C. She taught for many years at Brandon Middle School and retired from the Virginia Beach school system. She was the widow of Harold E. Newby and is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Wallace Crenshaw and husband Chauncey F. Crenshaw, Florida; daughter, Sharon Wallace, Warren, Pa.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving family members and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, in Bank St. Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Joseph P. Lee Jr. and Dr. Joseph Dancy. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. in Bank St. Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial service in the church fellowship hall. A viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Service. www.riddickfuneralservices.com.
