Barbara Williams-Allen Obituary


Barbara Williams-Allen NORFOLK - Our beloved, Barbara Ann Williams-Allen departed this life to return to the Father in heaven and entered into eternal rest Sept. 18, 2008. Barbara was born to the late Clarence Lee Joyner and Bernice Herndon Joyner in Norfolk, Jan. 26, 1949. She was raised by the late Mary Sturgis, her loving aunt. She attended Norfolk public schools during her youth. She was a member of Gethsemane Community Baptist Church of Norfolk and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 5. She is survived by her loving husband, John Allen of Norfolk; and her mother, Mrs. Bernice Joyner of Danville, Va. Six children are left to continue her legacy, Helen Williams, Johnny Beavers, Black Sekou (Nicole), Joseph Williams Jr., Paxton Drewitt, all of Norfolk and Edward Beavers (Jeralette) of Virginia Beach. Also surviving are two sisters, Sylvia Cooper (James) of Newark, N.J., and Sandra Foster of Danville; two brothers, William "Superman" Joyner (Margo) and Randy Sturgis of Norfolk. Also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends from throughout the years. A celebration of life ceremony, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Kirk Houston, will be conducted at Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church, 1317 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hampton. The remains will be ready for viewing today from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at 3571 Seay St., Norfolk, at 10 a.m. for the procession. Carlos A.
