Eleanor Osborne Obituary


Eleanor P. Osborne HAMPTON - Eleanor Powers Osborne lived 94 wonderful years and went home to be with the Lord and with her loving husband, Alex I. Osborne Sr., Sept. 18, 2008. Eleanor and Alex enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Mrs. Osborne was born in Birmingham, Ala., in 1914 to George Herbert Powers and Mary Alice Field Powers. She was a loving sister, devoted wife and good mother. At Second Presbyterian Church, Newport News, she was chairman of the Sunday School Junior Department, active in the choir, and received a life membership pin from the Women of the Church. At Noland Memorial United Methodist Church, she enjoyed her dear friends and the inspiring worship services. She is survived by her loving sister, Florence Mann of Chesapeake; three devoted children, Esther Osborne, Carol Sawyer and Alex Osborne Jr. and his wife Pam; her beloved grandchildren, Christi Batman and her husband Dave, Jenni McKay and her husband Andrew, Jeff Osborne and Janet Osborne; and by her talented great-grandsons, Jackson Charpia and Christian Charpia, Christi's children. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by the funeral, which will begin at 10 a.m. The committal will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Noland Memorial United Methodist Church, 55th and Huntington Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607 and the Second Presbyterian Church, 201 Menchville Road, Newport News, VA 23602.
