Patricia Leon Obituary

Patricia Ann Leon VIRGINIA BEACH - Our beloved mother, Patricia Ann Leon, was called home by the Lord to reunite with our Dad Sept. 23, 2008. Born in Baltimore, June 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mae and Ben Watson. Defeating cancer once in 1993, she recently fought another two-year battle with the disease and on Tuesday morning she slipped away quietly, with grace and dignity, after a long and courageous fight. Up until her death, Mom was active in the Retired Officers Wives Group, the "Out to Lunch Bunch," and was the founding member of a local chapter of the Red Hats Society. She was a dedicated participant of the Ridglea Civic League, early on serving as president and recently as vice president. Since 1971, Mom was a devoted member of Kempsville Presbyterian Church and during that time joined the Martha Prayer Group. Besides bowling with a local league for many years, Mom loved to shop, dine out with family and friends, enjoyed scrapbooking with neighbors, and brought laughter and joy into the life of every person she met. Predeceased by her loving husband, Albert and her sister, Maxine Wolverton, Patricia is survived by her son, Albert Paul Leon of Virginia Beach; daughter, Denise Ann Beasty and companion J.R. Mann; Denise's former husband, Michael Beasty of Panama City, Fla., her daughter, Jessica Mae Dupree and husband David Wayne Dupree of Virginia Beach; her sisters, Jean Frederick of Dundalk, Md., and Sara Clary and husband Kelly Clary of Georgia. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eileen and husband Wendle Kelly, Cecelia and Sarah Beasty, Jordan, Ashley, Alex and Shyanne Dupree; her great-grandson, Weston Kelly; also sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, amazing neighbors and a host of adoptees who live to share in the memory of her life. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Kempsville, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A celebration of "Miss Patty's" life will be held at Kempsville Presbyterian Church Saturday at 2 p.m. Please feel free to share your memories with the family at the church and join us at our home after the service for fellowship and refreshments. Her interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a future date to be announced. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or memorial donations made in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Please share your love and condolences with the family at www.mem.com.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Michael and I didn't know her very well on a first hand basis, but there was never any doubt that she was an adoring wife to your father, and loving mother to her children. I know you will miss her greatly.

It is with profound sadness that I must accept that Mom Leon is no longer with us. From the day Patty invited me to work with she and Al at their coffeeshop, I was not just an employee, but I was embraced as a friend and treated like a daughter. From being included in holiday and birthday gatherings, to holding my hand all night at the birth of our first child, and being there as advisors and confidantes in any situation, Patty and Al were the inlaws I never had. I am eternally grateful to them. I grieve with all of you, dear family, as I know do countless others that they welcomed into their home, their lives, and their hearts. Rest in Peace Mom and Pop Leon, until we are all united in heaven. God Bless You All. Love, Lisa, John, Cherisa, Alan, Ryan, Scott, and Thomas Friedlander

Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mother and Grandmother. I remember Pat as a friendly, loving neighbor that was quick with a smile and a helping hand. Being newly married with small children when I moved into our new home next to Pat and Al, Pat was always there with a cup of coffee to listen and advise. I moved after 8 years and we ran into each other only occasionally, but I will always remember her with fondness for the lovely outgoing lady that she was and how much she cherished her children.
We hope your warm memories of your Mom will comfort you.
