Mary Thomas Obituary
Mary Helen Thomas CHESAPEAKE - Mary Helen Thomas, 71, of the 2400 block of Brookshire Drive, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in Portsmouth. A native of Dunn, N.C., she was a retired waitress for Chuck's Hotdogs, a member of Wayside Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose No. 966. She was a loving mother and wife and is survived by her husband of 55 years, James L. Thomas; four daughters, Rose M. Thomas Hines of Chesapeake, Debra M. Overton and Donna Fay Gibbs, both of Portsmouth and Mary Thomas Hamlin of Suffolk; two sons, Louis J. Thomas of Chesapeake and John C. Thomas of Portsmouth; a sister, Cleo Tew of Dunn; two brothers, Thomas Mack Coggins Jr. of Lawton, Okla., and Charles F. Coggins of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two dear friends, Charles Dickie Crews and wife Cara Lee. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
