James Thompson Obituary


James E. Thompson NORFOLK - James E. Thompson, 91, formerly of Norfolk, died Sept. 27, 2008, at Trinity Station in Flatwoods, Ky. He was born in Greenup County, Kentucky, to the late Lloyd N. and Florence B. Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Jenny D. Thompson and was predeceased by his wife, Betty M. Thompson, the mother of his four children: James E. Thompson Jr. of Portsmouth (Jean), Christine T. Bradshaw of Houston, Texas (Bill), Philip Thompson of Searcy, Ariz. (Liz), and Ted Thompson of Greenwood, Ind. (Davina). Survivors also include his stepdaughters, Jackie Felty of Greenup and Denise Bell (Fred) of Portsmouth, Ohio, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson retired as a lieutenant and aviator in the U.S. Navy and was a proud member of the Silver Eagles. He also retired as a teacher in Virginia Beach. He served for many years as an elder at Norfolk Church of Christ where the fellowship hall bears his name. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, is handling the arrangements. There will be a visitation with the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23518. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St., Norfolk, at 1 p.m. Thursday. His son, Philip Thompson, will conduct the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norfolk Church of Christ, 5801 Granby St., Norfolk, VA 23505. The family thanks Jackie Felty, Denise and Fred Bell, the staff at Trinity Station in Flatwoods, Ky., and Community Hospice of Greenup, Ky., (especially hospice nurse, Kristie Martin) for the loving care they gave him during the last years of his life.
