Edwin Watts Obituary


Edwin T. Watts PORTSMOUTH - Edwin Taylor Watts went to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 2008. He was born April 4, 1914, in Saint Charles, Va., in Lee County. He was the son of the Rev. Richard Wingfield Watts and Ludie Taylor Watts. His stepmother was Darcie Lambert Watts. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Osborne Watts. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Jan. 19, 2008. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Milton Watts and half brother, Tommy Taylor. He is survived by son, William H. Watts and wife Carolyn; two grandchildren, William H. Watts II and wife Katy and Jennifer Watts Bishop and husband Donnie; and two great-grandsons, William H. Watts III and Wyatt Taylor Watts. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 503rd Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater, when he was awarded the Bronze star. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Yoder and Gordon Company, Norfolk. He was an avid reader of western and historical books, and had a passion for working on old cars. He leaves special relatives, Evelyn and Russell Hawkins, Helen Smith, and Bill and Joyce Osborne, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Michael Reaves and the Rev. Frank Carter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
