Eugene Slaughter Obituary


Eugene E. Slaughter PORTSMOUTH - Eugene E. Slaughter, 80, of the 1600 block of Ekstine Drive, died Sept. 29, 2008, in his residence. A native of Ahoskie, N.C., he was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where he was a trustee, deacon, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Mr. Slaughter retired from the American Tobacco Co. after 43 years of service, retired as a C9 (cafeteria) from the Norfolk Naval Base after 43 years, was a supervisor for Ravad Foam Co., and also retired as a supervisor with King Koil Mattress Factory. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Slaughter; three daughters, Teresa Brown (Charles), Edna Denise Slaughter and Darlene Johnson (Charles); four sons, Eugene Slaughter Jr. (Joyce), Louis E. Slaughter, Andrew M. Slaughter and Andre Slaughter (Portia); sister, Juanita Slaughter; two brothers, Louis Slaughter and Howard Harrell; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Helen Young. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Olive Grove Baptist Church, 1034 Albert Ave., Norfolk, by the Rev. Joyce Martin. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, is assisting the family. Viewing will begin Friday at noon.
