Imogene Byrum Obituary


Imogene M. Byrum EDENTON - Imogene Moses Byrum, 81, formerly of 951 Old Ferry Road, died Oct. 2, 2008, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Byrum was born in Pittsboro, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Obed William and Annie Maude Moses. She graduated from Goldston High School in 1944 and Appalachian State Teacher's College in 1948, majoring in home economics. Teaching home economics for two years at Silk Hope High School, she then changed her career to assistant home demonstration agent in Surry County. After a year, she was hired to fill the same position in Chowan County. There she met her husband, George Alma Byrum, they married in 1954, and together made their home in Edenton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jean B. Brown and husband Steve and their sons, Steven and Campbell, and June B. Proctor and husband Wayne and their son Stuart and daughter Sarah, all of Edenton; a sister, Mary Alice Moses and two brothers, Jerry Moses and Thomas Moses and wife Faye, all of Pittsboro. A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks and Dr. Wayne Proctor. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, and other times at the home of her daughter, Jean, 201 Oak Hill Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville St., Edenton, NC 27932.
