Frieda Feuer Obituary

Frieda Feuer NORFOLK - Frieda Feuer, 96, died Oct. 3, 2008, at her home of 56 years. She was a native of Berlin, Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1937 and had been a long-term resident of Norfolk. She was a daughter of Judah (a Holocaust victim) and Rose Tindel Lachs, who proceeded her in death as did her eldest sister and her husband, Hedy and Irving Weigel. She and her husband were brought to Norfolk early in World War II by distant relatives in Pennsylvania who manufactured navy uniforms since before World War I and opened a retail navy uniform outlet staffed by as many relatives as they had been able to extricate from Nazi Germany. Mrs. Feuer retired as bookkeeper at the Jewish Community Center and was a member of Temple Israel, the Temple Israel Sisterhood, the Jewish Community Center, Hadassah, and Brith Sholem Auxiliary. Mrs. Feuer is survived by her husband of 71 years, Julius Feuer and their sons Ron Lahav (formerly James Ronald Feuer) and his wife Kathleen of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, and Stanley Feuer and his wife Eileen May of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by her elder sister, Ella Berner of Floral Park, N.Y.; and nieces, Rochelle Berner Hoffman of New York and Henrietta Denotsko of New Jersey as well as Loretta Sonnabend and Karen Feuer-Schwager of California; and nephew, Mark Feuer of Las Vegas, Nev. She was a strong and steady support to her family in the U.S., Britain and Israel. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Dr. Herbert Brewer, her physician and the the nursing assistants from Jewish Family Services including Curlean Fentress, Evaline Atuti and Sherry Sicilia. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by Rabbi Michael E. Panitz. The family will receive well wishers all afternoon Monday and Tuesday at Temple Israel, Norfolk, followed each day by a service beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel of Temple Israel. The family requests that contributions be made to Temple Israel, Jewish Family Services or a charity of your choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

We will always remember the warm wellcome and hospitality of July and Frieda during my first visit in the USA as a young man. Later when we spent one year as a young family in the USA they were for our children as grandparents. The news on the death of July so short time after Frieda was shocking. Their long steady and loving marriage is admireable. Lets keep the family ties that were so important for July and Frieda.

Dear Mr. Feuer and Family,
I was so sorry to hear that Mrs. Feuer had passed away. Our families spent so many years on Fayton Ave.,
what wonderful times. It always brought a smile to my face seeing your car coming up the street, because Mr. & Mrs. Feuer were always together.
My prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Joanie Bacalis Conger
