Clarice Kramer Obituary

Clarice F. Kramer PORTSMOUTH - Clarice Fenster Kramer, 93, formerly of Portsmouth, died of natural causes Oct. 2, 2008, at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, N.C. Born March 28, 1915, in New York City to the late Louis and Esther Fenster of Stepney, Conn., and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cmdr. Mervin Kramer. She had lived in Portsmouth for more than 40 year. She was an avid, lifelong reader, amateur painter and well-informed connoisseur of the arts, the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle, and words in general. She was devoted to her husband "Merv," and the family they created. Her unending interest, support, and encouragement of her children were her hallmark. Clarice was an early member of Temple Sinai in the Churchland section of Portsmouth, and devoted much of her adult life to its members, activities and causes. Widowed early, the congregation became her extended family. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Fenster and is survived by her sister, Gertrude (Fenster) Levin of White Plains, N.Y.; daughter, Judith Mae Kramer and husband Lloyd Karr Comstock of Chapel Hill; son, Paul Alan Kramer of Avon, Conn.; grandchildren, Wendy Kramer of San Francisco, Joshua LittleJohn of Old Fort, N.C., and Beth LittleJohn of Chapel Hill; and her three great-grandchildren, Hana, Ela and Rose LittleJohn of Old Fort. Clarice felt immense gratitude to members of her Temple Sinai "family" for all their years of love and caring and the entire staff of the Carolina Meadows, for their compassionate and respectful care. A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Temple Sinai section of Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. Rabbi Arthur Steinberg will officiate. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Temple Sinai or the philanthropy of your choice. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling these arrangements. www.sturtevantfuneralhome.com.
