Florine Coley Obituary


Florine G. Coley CHESAPEAKE - Florine Gibbs Coley, 82, of the 2100 block of Engle Ave., went to be with her Lord, Oct. 5, 2008. Mrs. Coley was born in Tyrell County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Loyd Gibbs and Phebie Dodge Gibbs. Mrs. Coley was a child of the Depression, a new bride during World War II, and a devoted wife and mother. She discovered new energy as a grandmother. Mrs. Coley also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 66 years, William A. Coley; a daughter, Denise Newnam and her husband Keith of Chesapeake; two sons, Jerry Coley and his wife Linda of Moyock, N.C., Steve Coley and his wife Kim of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Tabatha, Kristy, Chelsea and Rachel. Mrs. Coley is also survived by a great-grandson, Byron and a sister, Edna Pearl Edwards. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments by the Rev. Frank Webster. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 until 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Beth Sholom Home/ Special Care Unit, 6401 Auburn Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
