Aline Fombell Obituary


Aline O. Fombell NEWPORT NEWS - Aline O. Fombell, 82, peacefully went to be with the Lord Oct. 8, 2008, in her residence at The Chesapeake Retirement Community. A native of Gadsden, Ala., she moved to Chesapeake in 1996 and to The Chesapeake Retirement Center in Newport News in 2003. Mrs. Fombell attended Gadsden High School and Gadsden Business College. She worked at Glencoe Lumber Co. for 33 years and Gadsden Community College for five years. Mrs. Fombell will be remembered as a gracious and caring wife and mother and a knowledgeable businesswoman. She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church for 25 years and a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church in Chesapeake after moving to Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel and Thelma Owens; two sisters, Edith Mae Owens and Angie O. Cochran; and two husbands, William Lane Cox Sr. and Floyd R. Fombell. She is survived by her son, William Lane "Bill" Cox Jr. and his wife Carole of Chesapeake; two grandsons, Joel M. Cox and his wife Lisa of Chesapeake and David M. Cox and his wife Amy of Allen, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Weston and Cameron. She is also survived by her sister, Doris O. Forman; a brother, J. Leon Owens and his wife Vicky of Gadsden; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday at 4 p.m. in The Chesapeake Room at The Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News with a reception following the service. A graveside service will be held in Gadsden, Ala., at a later date. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, 1112 Kempsville Road, Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Gadsden, Ala., or Great Bridge Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
