Aaron Rashti Obituary

Aaron J. Rashti NORFOLK - Aaron J. Rashti, 94, died peacefully at home surrounded by love and comfort Oct. 17, 2008. He was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Baghdad, Iraq, the youngest of a large Jewish family that immigrated to the United States in stages. Despite a shortened formal education, he developed his potential and realized the American dream for himself and his family. He educated three children and ensured the education of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He generously contributed to many charitable organizations. Aaron was predeceased by three wives, Marguerite, Ruth and Mavis. He has lived with his Norfolk family since 2003. He is survived by his children, Edward and his wife Bonel, Jeanette Augusta and Robert and his wife Margie. Papa leaves seven grandchildren, Debra, Donna, Denise, Michael, Rachel, Stacey and Robin and seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Shawn, Jackie, Adam, Jennifer, Sarah and Jacob. He is further survived by his loving sister, Vicky, who celebrated her 100th birthday in September. Papa was able to squeeze every ounce of meaning and joy in his final years in large part because of the excellent medical care from Dr. Scott Cross and Marilyn King and his gifted caregivers, Deana and Cathy. The family is deeply grateful for these blessings. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., Norfolk. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Donations may be made to Jewish Family Service, Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia or any organization that moves the world to a better place. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
