Louise Montgomery Obituary

Louise B. Montgomery VIRGINIA BEACH - Louise B. Montgomery, 80, passed away Oct. 20, 2008. She grew up in Amherst, near Lynchburg, Va., the youngest of five children born to Bascom and Willie Burley. Louise began her career as a keypunch operator, afterwards working in retail grocery where she met and married Bill Montgomery. Louise later retired from the civil service. She and Bill moved to Edisto Island, S.C., where they made many friends and enjoyed golfing, crabbing, and entertaining, and if a guest was lucky, Louise would play the guitar and sing. Shortly after her husband passed away, Louise returned to Virginia Beach. She moved into and joined the family of friends at Chesapeake House on the Bay where she served on the Social Committee. Louise is survived by her son, Benjamin Shaner; daughter, Susan Shaner; and Susan's children, Juan Carlos Shaner and Benjamin Sanchez-Gil. Also surviving her are two sisters, Mary Maddox and Ruby Ard. The family wishes to thank Louise's friends, neighbors and relatives for their love and companionship and for always lending a helping hand when ever one was needed. In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to a charitable organization of your choice. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.woodlawngroup.com.
