Emma Barker Obituary

Emma Barker NORFOLK - Emma "Mickey" Barker, 88, went to be with the Lord Oct. 21, 2008. She was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Auburn, Maine, to the late Neil D. and Ida S. MacLeod. Mickey loved to crochet and gifted afghans to her family who cherish them deeply. She was a member of Norview United Methodist Church, a very active member of the Ruth Rienfield Sunday school class where she worked tirelessly to help make the much loved Easter eggs and an active volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. She was preceded in death by her two brothers. Mickey was a very special lady, a devoted wife and mother, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald R. Barker of Virginia Beach; daughter, Becky Ann Miller and husband Howard of Virginia Beach; son, Neil R. Barker and wife Luanne; and two grandsons, Clayton and Brian Barker, all of Charlotte, N.C. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. in Norview United Methodist Church on Norview Avenue by the Rev. William Joseph Shepherd. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Norview United Methodist Church in Mickey's name. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family would like to thank Sandy Kellner and Christina Belvo of Heartland Hospice for the love and care that was given to Mickey. You may offer condolences to the family at www.mem.com.
