Olive Smith Obituary


Olive Evenson Smith NORFOLK - Olive Evenson Smith, 93, went to be with the Lord Oct. 26, 2008. She was born Oct. 26, 1915 in Norfolk to the late Ole and Martha Evenson. Olive was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a member of the Sons of Norway. She was a long- time member of Norview United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a member of the Home Demonstration Club, an extension of Virginia Tech, the Good Sam Club and the New Kent Chapel Association. Olive was a very brilliant woman, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pleasure in reading, knitting and sewing. Olive was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, James K. Smith. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Elaine S. Anderson and husband Gary C. of Norfolk; grandchildren, Chad Anderson and wife Lisa of Raleigh, Dawn Anderson and Mark Anderson, both of Norfolk; and her great-grandchildren, Evan, Caleb, Caiden and Carley. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Norview United Methodist Church by Pastor William Joseph Shepherd. Burial will follow in New Kent County Chapel in New Kent County, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Norview United Methodist Church, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Cancer Society in Olive Smith's name. You may offer condolences to the family at www.mem.com.
