Robert Mackey Obituary
Robert John Mackey VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert John Mackey, retired U.S. Navy, died Oct. 27, 2008, at the age of 61. Mr. Mackey was born in Troy, N.Y., and was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis Butler and John Benjamin Mackey. Known as "Papa," he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dolores Mackey; their two children: daughter, Joseanna Marie Henry and husband Lawrence and their three children, Meighan, Cameron and Jordan currently residing in Rota, Spain; son, Patrick John Mackey and wife Jeanette and their two children, Calvin and Coby of Virginia Beach. Family survivors also includes a brother, William Mackey and family in Troy, N.Y., and extended family in California. Papa will be missed by all family, friends and fellow shipmates. A memorial with full military honors will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, is serving the family. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.

Dolores and Family,
Bob has given many years of military and civilian service to his country and our great nation. As a neighbor he was a good friend always willing to give a hand when it was needed. Bob will truly be missed and the times we would talk with him on the side porch. We are glad to have known him. May God bless him and your family and may God watch over him in his peaceful rest.

My thoughts and prayers go to all the Mackey family.
Papa was a great man. His sense of humor was second to none. He opened his doors for all family gatherings, big and small. He will be missed but his legacy will certainly live on through his children and grandchildren.
