Janie Newkirk Obituary


Janie Mae Newkirk NORFOLK - On Oct. 26, 2008, God called one of his angels home, Janie Mae Newkirk, 64, of 2619 Ballentine Blvd., surrounded by her loving family. Janie was born in Sumter, S.C., Dec. 2, 1943, to the late Carlyle and Rebecca Haynesworth. She later met and married Alexander Newkirk Sr., started a family and then relocated to Norfolk, Virginia. She worked for 15 years as a special education teacher for Norfolk public schools. She gave her life to Christ and was a member of Norview Baptist Church. Janie leaves to cherish her memory her six children: three daughters, Kim Guillory, Valerie Newkirk-Robinson and Janrace C. Newkirk; three sons, Alexander Newkirk Jr., Jeffery Newkirk (Shawnt'e) and Terrence Newkirk, all of Norfolk; extended family, Susanna Hannibal Haynesworth of Sumter, Carolyn Haynesworth Murrell (Travis) of Washington, D.C., Daisy Blanding (Elijah) of Jacksonville, Fla., Martha Glover of Sumter and Algie Johnson of Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. She was predeceased in death by a special friend, David E. Reddick. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
