Hans Schwarz Obituary


Hans R. Schwarz VIRGINIA BEACH - H. Richard Schwarz, 77, died Oct. 23, 2008, in his home. A native of Bayonne, N.J., he was a graduate of the United States Merchant Academy Kings Point, N.Y. He served on active duty with the Navy and Naval Reserve for 27 years retiring as a commander. During his civilian career, he served as director of Trade Development with the Virginia Port Authority. Richard's last job was as an area sales manager for O.O.C.L. before retirement. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, the Foreign Commerce Club and the Traffic Club. He was also a member of The Church of Ascension Catholic Church, where he worked with the homeless and served in other ministries. He was predeceased by his lifelong love and wife, Audrey L. Schwarz formerly of Virginia Beach and their precious daughter, Mary Elizabeth Schwarz formerly of Matawan, N.J. Richard is survived by his only son, Richard Francis Schwarz of Winston Salem, N.C.; and his sister, Elizabeth Gannon of Quincy, Mass.; his sister-in-law, Dorothy L. Westman; his nephew, John R. Westman; his niece, Marguerite W. Dickerson and his niece and godchild, Courtney Beth Dickerson, as well as nephews, Ryan Dickerson and Dr. Andrew Dickerson of Atlanta. Dalmatians were very special to Richard over the years. Cognac, was his very special friend and constant companion. A celebration of Richard's life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, at The Church of the Ascension on Princess Anne Road at 11 a.m. by Father Jim Parke. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Contributions can be made to The American Diabetes Association 1-800-342-2383 or to The Church of Ascension. r
