Alma Wood Obituary


Alma R. Wood CHESAPEAKE - Alma Ruffin Wood, 93, of the 1000 block of Great Bridge Blvd., departed this life Oct. 28, 2008. Born in Norfolk, she was a teacher in the Chesapeake Public Schools System for more than 40 years until her retirement. Mrs. Wood was a longtime member of New Hope United Church of Christ, where she served on the Usher Board and the Hospitality Committee. She also held membership in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and the Moles Society Club. Mrs. Wood is predeceased by her husband, Clifton A. Wood Sr. She is survived by her son, Clifton A. Wood Jr. and wife Rhonda of Virginia Beach; three sisters-in-law, Geneva Ford of Portsmouth, Alberta Watson and Beatrice Thomas of Norfolk; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in New Hope United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will begin at 2 p.m. today in Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where a wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. We invite you to send a condolence message in the family's guestbook at www.pretlowandsons.com.
